Brian Fugere different authors and co wrote a great book called Why Business People Speak Like Idiots, a look at the world scary corporate speak. I would suggest a sequel called Why Business People create slides that put to sleep.
Have you seen these people. Probably have been in their audience. They have 495 slides that have read one by one with a monotone, expressionless face and expect you to follow along in a font that your eye doctor could not translate.
For starters, most of us Can Read by themselves, thank you very much. Secondly, assuming that we can read, perhaps the presenter should only send us the slides, and spare us the presentation?
Am I too sarcastic? Perhaps. But I spend most of my time coaching people through presentations and meeting critics who have spent a lot of time designing and perfecting the slides, but little if any time thinking through their message. Creation Slide is not communicating. According to the English dictionary, means to communicate "talk" to "communicate" or "connect". Connective Presentations only thing more is that you stick the plug into the outlet to operate the projector.
So what is a presenter to do?
No One Came to see a presentation. Before you create a single slide, think about what you mean. What do you want people to think, do, know or feel when you're done speak? If the slide crashed, could still tell the story? If your answer is no, then the message is confused and not really own your material. Writing your first interview and then create slides that reinforce what you're saying instead of using the slides as a script.
Speak, do not read. Reading is to the eye. Listening is the ear. It 'important to create slides that speak in phrases, not sentences so we talk instead of reading. Delete the words as if, the, in, on, and. Instead, use 3-5 words per line to reinforce what you're saying so people will listen instead of reading the slide. Try opportunities to reveal the lines to prevent people to read in advance in order to focus their attention where you want.
Do not put everything on the slide. What works in print does not always translate into slides. Your task is to help listeners make sense of information. If you fill too much on a slide, will voice while reading Z are still talking about A. item instead of cutting and pasting data from a study, create colorful graphs, charts and photos that the data show, evoke emotions and make information more relevant. That's what listeners remember.
Think the title. Look at each slide and asks: "What is the title and what it means for people in room? "Then think about how their feet through the information. For example:" Look at the purple box on the left of the yellow box on the right. And 'almost twice the size. This means that we have doubled our profits. "As each slide does not need to be alone, must have a reason to be there, like the creation of a point or drive home a message.
Do not do that way here. Precisely because the others the drone does not mean you too boring. Think of each presentation as a great opportunity to inform, persuade or sell your point of view. If a slide set is designed for you, you should read looking for ways to personalize the information and create moments that audiences remember. If you are required to submit each individual slide, this does not mean you have to read each item. Provide an overview and to tell the public that the details will be available in written form later.
Hit them over the head. The first few words to determine whether your public tracks in or out. So, because people need a slide to tell the public what they're going to talk? They do not know why am I here? When you open your mouth, they hit on the head with a story or an example that involves and captures the attention in order to understand why they should care? Ask what we earn?
Finally, create slideshows for people in the back. Use color, large fonts and contrast. Remember, every time you speak, you're on! Find a way to stand out and set the bar a bit 'higher for people with anxiety to hear what you have to say.

Reading the Qur`an (Hardcover) $19.37 "I grew up reading the Qur`an on my mother`s lap," writes Ziauddin Sardar. "It`s an experience I share with most Muslim children. And so it is that our connection to the Qur`an is infused with associations of the warmest and most enduring of human bonds." In Reading the Qur`an, Sardar–one of Europe`s leading public intellectuals–laments that for far too many Muslims, the Qur`an he had learned in his mother`s lap has become a stick used for ensuring conformity and suppressing dissenting views. Indeed, some find in the Qur`an justification for misogyny, validation for hatred of others, an obsession with dress and mindless ritual, rules for running modern states. Arguing passionately but reasonably against these trends, Sardar speaks out for a more open, less doctrinaire approach to reading the Qur`an. He contends that the Qur`an is not fixed in stone for all time, but a dynamic text which every generation must encounter anew, and whose relevance and implications for our time we have yet to fully discover. The words of the Qur`an imply movement: the religious life, it tells us, is not about standing still but always striving to make our life, our society, the entire world around us a better place for everyone. Sardar explores the Qur`an from a variety of perspectives, from traditional exegesis to hermeneutics, critical theory, and cultural analysis, drawing fresh and contemporary lessons from the Sacred Text. He also examines what the Qur`an says about such contemporary topics as power and politics, rights of women, suicide, domestic violence, sex, homosexuality, the veil, freedom of expression, and evolution. Ziauddin Sardar opens a new window on this remarkable Sacred Text, in a book that will engage all devout Muslims and will interest anyone curious about the Qur`an and Islam today. |

In Praise of Reading and Fiction (Hardcover) $11.25 On December 7, 2010, Mario Vargas Llosa was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. His Nobel Lecture is a resounding tribute to fiction’s power to inspire readers to greater ambition, to dissent, and to political action. “We would be worse than we are without the good books we have read, more conformist, not as restless, more submissive, and the critical spirit, the engine of progress, would not even exist,” Vargas Llosa writes. “Like writing, reading is a protest against the insufficiencies of life. When we look in fiction for what is missing in life, we are saying, with no need to say it or even to know it, that life as it is does not satisfy our thirst for the absolute—the foundation of the human condition—and should be better.” Vargas Llosa’s lecture is a powerful argument for the necessity of literature in our lives today. For, as he eloquently writes, “literature not only submerges us in the dream of beauty and happiness but alerts us to every kind of oppression.” |
