What power would be good telescope to see the Andromeda Galaxy?
You Can see very well with the binoculars. If you use a telescope, use the lowest magnification, because the Andromeda galaxy is 6 times larger than the Moon, as seen in our sky! Surprised that you never noticed before? It should be easily visible without any optical aid? After all, you can see the moon with ease. The answer is that it is very dim. You can see the bright nucleus without any optical aid, but it looks smaller than the Moon and much, much dimmer. This is a galaxy like the Milky Way, and it is no brighter than the Milky Way, only smaller in the sky. So you need very dark skies, away from City Lights. If you can not see the Milky Way, the sky is not dark enough. But even then you will be disappointed as you can see. It will not be anything like the pictures in books. That is because those photos are all long exposures that show How Much dimmer light than the eye will ever see, even with a telescope. Even in the telescope, you will only see the bright nucleus, which appears as a round glow characteristics. External structure spiral, where you can see everyone, you seem to be a place of dark and disjointed separate objects, where the nodes of the brighter spiral arms are brighter.

Dobsonian Telescope $52.66 A Dobsonian telescope is an alt-azimuth mounted newtonian telescope design popularized by the amateur astronomer John Dobson starting in the 1960s. Dobson’s telescopes featured a simplified mechanical design that was easy to manufacture from readily available components to create a large, portable, low-cost telescope. The design is intended for visually observing faint objects, a requirement where the observer needs a large objective diameter (i.e. light-gathering power) combined with portability for travel to non-light polluted locations. Dobsonians are intended to be what is generally called a light bucket operating at low magnification, and therefore the design omits features found in other amateur telescopes such as equatorial tracking. Dobsonians are popular in the amateur telescope making community, where the design was pioneered and continues to evolve. A number of commercial telescope makers also sell telescopes based on this design. |

Telescope and Microscope $21.88 Purchase of this book includes free trial access to www.million-books.com where you can read more than a million books for free. This is an OCR edition with typos. Excerpt from book: the focal distance of a convex lens. Let a b, fig. 4, be a convex lens, and c d parallel rays Fig. 4. proceeding from the sun; those rays, after passing through the lens, will converge to a point e. Hold the lens opposite to the rays of the sun, and observe where the rays converge to a small spot as at e. This spot is the image of the sun formed by the lens; measure the distance between the lens and the spot; it is the focal distance required. Section III.?Description of common refracting There are various kinds of refracting telescopes, which we shall describe in their order, commencing with that which is the most simple, and most easily understood. 1. The astronomical telescope.?The only parts essential to this telescope are two lenses, A D and E Y, fig. 5. A D is the object-d/ass, and E Y is the eye-glass. Let o B be a/aistant object, from which rays proceed Jrfearly parallel to A D, the object-lens. The ray’s passing through this lens will form an image of the object in its focus at i M, and as the rays cross each other it will be inverted. E r, the eye-glass, is placed exactly at its focal distance from this image, and must be of a much shorter focal distance than the object-glass. The magnifying power in this telescope is in the proportion of the focal distance of the object-glass to that of the eyeglass. Suppose the object-glass to be of twenty- four inches focal distance, and the eye-glass one inch, the magnifying power is then as one to twenty-four; in other words, it makes a distant object appear twenty-four tunes nearer, and twenty-four times larger in size than it is to the naked eye. If the eye-glass had been one and a half inch focal distance, the magnifying power would have been only sixteen times. Through this telescope all objects appear invert… |

Galileo’s Glassworks: The Telescope and the Mirror $20.18 The telescope was invented in 1608. But what about the events leading up to it? Galileo and his contemporaries were searching for a device with which from an incredible distance we might read the smallest letters. Eileen Reeves tells a story of cultural optics: magical mirrors and political intrigue, and investigators looking for magnifying power in all the wrong places, while the solution lay in the humble spectacle lenses on their noses. An excellent read, and an important contribution to the history of science.
The Dutch telescope and the Italian scientist Galileo have long enjoyed a durable connection in the popular mind–so much so that it seems this simple glass instrument transformed a rather modest middle-aged scholar into the bold icon of the Copernican Revolution. And yet the extraordinary speed with which the telescope changed the course of Galileo’s life and early modern astronomy obscures the astronomer’s own curiously delayed encounter with the instrument. This book considers the lapse between the telescope’s creation in The Hague in 1608 and Galileo’s alleged acquaintance with such news ten months later. In an inquiry into scientific and cultural history, Eileen Reeves explores two fundamental questions of intellectual accountability: what did Galileo know of the invention of the telescope, and when did he know it?

The record suggests that Galileo, like several of his peers, initially misunderstood the basic design of the telescope. In seeking to explain the gap between the telescope’s emergence and the alleged date of the astronomer’s acquaintance with it, Reeves explores how and why information about the telescope was transmitted, suppressed, or misconstrued in the process. Her revised version of events, rejecting the usual explanations of silence and idleness, is a revealing account of the role that misprision, error, and preconception play in the advancement of science.

Along the way, Reeves off@4.záG®ÿ¾Úð |
