Leptospirosis is a contagious disease that affects animals as well as humans. Caused by a group of organisms called interrogans lepterospira (within of these species, there are different strains), the disease can lead to chronic diseases of the liver and kidneys and even death in dogs. Eight different strains emit different types and levels of disease that depends on the animal that is infected. The disease causes more problems in dogs. Not until recently, vaccines that were available for only two types of bacteria namely, Dog Days Leptospirosis and icterhaemorrhagiae L., is practically wiped out the medical conditions associated with these tensions between the population vaccinated dog. Vaccines for other two types of bacteria, grippotyphosa L. and L. Pomona are now easily available.
The body Leptospira leptospires grow well in water, which appears in a long spiral-shaped body with hooks on both ends. They are called "aquatic spirochetes". They are of two kinds, and Biflex interogans Leptospira Leptospira causing illness in animals and humans. Interogans Leptospira is divided into blocks based on antigens (stimulates the production of antibodies) types, which provide very little cross-immunity against one serotype and the host, is the dog that has developed resistance to a strain by vaccination or by infection ex, will not be able to reject an infection caused by a strain different.
Of infection vectors bacteria are usually rats and other rodents, even if an infected dog can also be a source of infection. The most important means of transmission the disease is through the ingestion of urine and other forms of bacteria that penetrate the skin very thin.
Leptospirosis Transmission The disease is transmitted when the animal comes into contact with urine of other infected animals with bite wounds and absorption of an infected tissue.
Indirect transmission Wade happens when dogs or drinking contaminated water or food. Since the standing water provides an environment very suitable for leptospirosis, dogs that are infected Wade in it. Infections are common in autumn and summer, because the survival of the organism is very low freezing.
During the first four to twelve days after infection, the dog will experience fever and chills, vomiting, loss of appetite, depression, conjunctivitis and pain.
In severe cases, the infected dog can develop hypothermia (abnormally low body temperature) become depressed and die before a kidney or liver failure. A microscopic agglutination test is performed on a sample of blood of an animal suspected to be a laboratory. This may occur for the individual and the animal strains of antibodies (title) to combat these strains.
Depending on the level of the title, a positive diagnosis for the precise and specific strain can then be made. It will be useful if many samples are taken and tested proof as the securities may have negative results in the first ten days after infection, and immunization shots can make a former senior notes and should be considered during the interpretation of the securities.
In dogs that are severely infected, who are required to pay the agency Leptospira in urine, so when a sample of urine is taken and cultured, it can give a positive diagnosis. This is not the best though, because the individual receiving the sample may be at risk.
Treatment Treatment usually consists of antibiotics, replacement of fluids through intravenous rehydration and control the vomiting the dog through antiemetics and other problems related to liver or kidney infections. Note that the dehydration should be corrected within six to twelve hours.
Penicillin or one of its by – is the antibiotic that is given to treat the infection early, when, doxycycline is used for the treatment and prevention of possible carrier state to continue.
