Measurement in Everyday Life
Measurement is a part of everyday life. This is an essential life skill.
Measurement is one of the most important and widespread applications of mathematics.
Children must understand the importance of measurement and be familiar Parents with their use in everyday life. can help children see the importance of measurement in the real world, underlining the applications that are present their lives on a daily basis.
Several types of measurements are important in everyday life. Time, money, temperature are some of them.
Let's see some examples of real life.
TIME
Time is used to talk about our daily lives, our daily routine. Time management is a part of our daily routine.
T ime is a sequence of events that relates to our everyday lives.
Here are some examples:
School starts at 8:00 in the morning.
We eat breakfast 8-9 am.
Sarah has a history at 9:45 in the morning.
The football game is at 3:30 in the afternoon.
The concert is at 7:00 pm.
Clocks / watches are tools that measure time.
A calendar is another way of measuring time. It 'a tool to help us keep track days of the month, the days of school, birthdays, parties, organization of events and activities.
A watch is used to measure time intervals of less than one day, and should not be confused with a calendar.
MONEY
The money is part of our daily lives. We use the money to buy things that we need. Use of money involves the use of different mathematical skills such as counting, adding and subtracting amounts of money. Eg When we go into a store, we need to know Math, so we can get the right amount of things. Suppose I go to a grocery store with $ 10.00 to buy tomatoes. 1 pound of tomatoes cost $ 2.00 (say). The calculations and understand that I can not buy more than 4 pounds, 4 pounds of tomatoes that cost me 4 × $ 2.00 = $ 8.00 + I need to pay taxes for this amount. We use basic math to calculate the change in the grocery store. Suppose I paid $ 8.75 for tomatoes and the balance is due $ 1.25. I expect to receive this change of voice from the store cashier. TEMPERATURE The temperature is a measure of something as hot or cold. Temperature is one of the factors that characterize the state of the atmosphere. What we wear and what we do in response to outside temperature.
Eg
We wear gloves and mittens winter. We skate in winter.
You Can swim in summer.
Many measurement capabilities real-world applications. To increase the number of servings multiply all the ingredients of the recipe, and to decrease divide. # 2 When you plan a trip, we calculate the distance in miles (miles per gallon) by using the odometer in the car, calculate the distance traveled to determine when to fill the gas tank again … # 3 we use the measurement of skills in planning a garden area, measuring flooring, painted the inside of your home. Quantity paint that can be purchased is directly proportional to the surface of the walls of your home.
# 4 we use a measurement when sewing dress.
# 5 choose the air conditioner according to the volume of the house.
# 6 you buy fruits and vegetables in a grocery store by weight. We weigh scales.
