Looking for a fun, exciting, interactive, but above all a place of education to take the children on a trip?

I work for a mentoring program CA in the small town and we are trying to take all the boys and their mentors on a trip. The fact is, must be educational. It should be clear that the courses of instruction. Does anyone know of education, but very fun places to take kids. I am a bit 'bigger even though the majority 12-14. And they think that they are very grown up, so nothing really childish, because it will not participate. Please help! Has to be in California!
