The Building Blocks of Preschool Success (Paperback) $20.64 "The authors do an excellent job of integrating literacy throughout the preschool curriculum. They invite teachers to peer into the windows of diverse classrooms to view the way the techniques and strategies are implemented. I am a seasoned mentor teacher who has been in the field of child development for more than 20 years, and this book will become part of my personal resource library. I also recommend it for new preschool teachers who are setting up and planning their first classrooms."—Darla L. Pulliam, early childhood teacher, Culver City Unified School District, California"This book presents practical ideas for teaching the essential components of a high-quality early childhood program: oral language and vocabulary, phonological awareness, emergent writing, and print and alphabet awareness. It also addresses assessment and the challenges of meeting individual needs. The vignettes from authentic classrooms are especially useful and engaging. The beauty of the book is that the content is relevant across different early childhood contexts; preschool teachers in either public or private settings will find it of great value. It would be an excellent choice for professional development study groups."—Michelle Picard, EdD, early childhood supervisor, Arlington Public Schools, Virginia"Readers will find a blueprint for infusing preschool classrooms with literacy awareness, intentional instruction, and language play. The book systematically describes the building blocks of preschool literacy and provides valuable, classroom-based examples of what each component looks like. The writing style is extremely teacher friendly, making this the perfect text for preservice teachers as well as those already working in a variety of early childhood contexts."—April Whatley Bedford, PhD, University of New OrleansWritten Expressly For Preschool Teachers, This Engaging Book Explains The"Whats,"Whys," And"how-tos" of implementing best practices for instru |

Achieving Excellence in Preschool Literacy Instruction (Paperback) $27.61 Justice (teaching and learning, The Ohio State U.) and Vukelich (teacher education, U. of Delaware) have combined the work of 35 educators and specialists to present this discussion of achieving excellence in language and literacy at the preschool level. This book is intended for early-childhood practitioners such as teachers, directors and staffers of educational centers and projects, teachers-in-training (and their teachers) and inservice teachers. The first section establishes a framework for viewing preschool programs as essential contexts for improving educational outcomes–particularly in the areas of early language and literacy. Scientifically based reading research (SBRR) and the professional development of early education and care are also discussed. Teacher support, the optimization of early learning environments, and a review of decision-making based on data from literary program reviews, evaluations, screening and curriculum-based measurement are considered. Preschool $9.58 Released in concert with their first new studio recording in years (Another Case of Brewtality), this collection of classic old-school Gang Green numbers appeared on the band’s longtime indie label, Tang!, in 1997. While Chris Doherty (vocals and guitars) leads the group (including bassist Bill Manley and drummer Mike Dean) through a myriad of blisteringly fast and mercifully short punk gems (“Lie Lie,” “Kill a Commie”), the interesting and rare mid-tempo numbers (“Sold Out,” “Don’t Know”) stand out with their more pointed — or maybe just understandable — lyrics and overall listenability. Doherty’s throat-splitting vocal delivery matches the greatest punk wailers with its intensity and abandon, while the “singer” lays down some seriously quick guitar work, actually displaying a reasonable amount of technical facility on his instrument. All this can be said for just about any Gang Green disc, so even while there are more than a few nice moments on Preschool, it’s not an important entry in the band’s oeuvre and should be valued as such by fans looking to begin or expand their punk collection. ~ Vincent Jeffries, Rovi Performers: Chris Doherty – Vocals, Guitar; Mike Dean – Drums; William Manley – Bass |

Teens Together Grief Support Group Curriculum (Paperback) $28.7 The Grief Support Group Curriculum provides a basis for assisting children and teenagers as they learn about mourning through facing death of a close or special friend. The aim of this curriculum is to facilitate healthy variations of mourning and positive adaptations following the death of a friend or family member. The work illustrates mourning in four stages of development and is accordingly divided into four separate texts. The texts focus on preschool-aged children, children in kindergarten through grade two, children in grades three through six, and teenagers. Each curriculum contains ten ninety-minute sessions that should be implemented over a period of ten weeks. By employing age-appropriate themes to engage the child and provide continuity throughout the sessions, the division of material within the curricula assures that the activities reflect the developmental level of the grieving child or adolescent. Each person grieves differently, and Grief Support Group Curriculum addresses theissues related to mourning while recognizing the importance of individuality in grieving. |

Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum (Mixed media product) $94.54 This best-selling text addresses all aspects of classroom life, including the roles of children and adults, the physical and social environments, and teaching and learning within multiple domains for children age three to eight. It provides a comprehensive, cohesive approach to curriculum development, which results in greater continuity for children and practitioners in group settings in childcare, preschool, and the early elementary grades. Concentrating as much on the ?how? of curriculum development as on the ?what and why,? the authors provide practical, research-based guidelines for translating theory into best practice that accommodates age-appropriateness, individual differences, and social and cultural diversity. Students learn how to conceptualize, plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum through detailed application opportunities in each chapter. New Features to this Edition include: Assignable activities online at MyEducationLab are meaningfully integrated into each chapter, with margin notes referring to videos, classroom artifacts, and strategies in ?Assignments and Activities? and more applied exercises in ?Building Teaching Skills and Dispositions?
